Irene Pressner

80 to 150 times a second...

Irene Pressner is a Venezuelan artist who uses tattoo technique over encaustic.
Her interest in amplifying and juxtaposing diverse representative registries lead her to create hybrid paintings that cross between ancient technique of encaustic and tattooing. In some pieces, the surprise factor plays a trick through camouflaged nostalgic comics, concealed to plain sight, where the hidden archetypes of the collective unconscious plays an important roll.

Irene Pressner won first place in the annual juried competition at the Museum of Latin American Art. The MoLAA prize winner topped 132 other Latin American artists to win and having her art included in the museum’s collection.
