Slide of the Action

The gallery installation for A Slice Of The Action has been designed to bring the viewer on a visual journey from beginning to end in our world of sugar coated “caked on” madness. We have carefully considered the space and all of its attributes to design an exhibition that is consistent, thought provoking, and cutting edge. The chosen mediums include sculpture, installation, and photography.

A Slice Of The Action
A new collaboration by Carl Pascuzzi and Jonathan Stein
Amidst the electricity of hundreds of camera bulbs popping, in a sea of shimmering glitz and plastic surgery, lies a hunger. From glossy tabloids, to up-to-date hashings of the latest celebrity trials and tribulations; it is here in the under belly of societal consumption that A Slice Of The Action forms its roots.

It is our assertion, that societies as a whole are comprised of ravenous consuming machines. Each day we feast greedily upon any and all morsels of information spouted back to us via television, radio, internet and word of mouth. In particular our morbid fascination and subsequent appetite for celebrity gossip is limitless. Divorce, betrayal, death, infidelity, pregnancy, sex, drug abuse, aggression and an overall fall from Grace, play integral roles in the ever fickle shifting of our public opinion towards celebrities. Whether we love and acclaim such icons or vilify them for their indiscretions, one simple truth remains, we just can’t get enough.

A Slice Of The Action, looks to illustrate the symbolic cannibalism of famous personalities. Couple this concept of consumption with issues of gender, race, sexuality and stereotyping and one enters into a world where little is sacred and anything is up for devouring. While we may sugar coat the severity of such mass pop culture ingestion, it is our belief as artists, that underneath the unctuous frosting lie inherent cancerous issues that perpetuate these feeding frenzies and the overall universal harm that comes from such an insatiable hunger.

Bon Appetite!
